About this story

The main character is a woman who comes from England. Her name is Teresa. She is coming to Africa to work with an American man. His name is Dr McCall. He is a famous doctor in Africa. He and Teresa’s father are good friends.

Dr McCall works for African people but she does not understand why she was invited to work together with him. Therefore, she asks him about it.

In Africa, many Africans catch a terrible sickness when they are babies. The sickness is river blindness. If you catch the sickness, you go blind so slowly. There are thousands of people with the sickness. The medicines to cure the sickness were not found by then. However, Dr McCall found a woman who is able to cure the sickness, but she does not tell him because he can not speak Nandi. So he asks Teresa to work with him because she can speak Nandi.

The next day after she met Dr McCall, she meets a reporter. He tells her about Dr McCall and she suspects that Dr McCall will give the medicine and sell it to F.D.I which is an American medicine company and get a lot of money. If that is true, only rich people can be helped but poor people cannot be helped.

A few days later, Teresa and Dr McCall go to a forest where the woman lives and Teresa talks with the woman and is taught about the medicine. After she met the woman, she gets so tired and sleeps. When she wakes up, Dr McCall is not there. She is convinced that Dr McCall left faster than her and tells the cure to the F.D.I and gets much money.

She managed to tell about it faster than him and go to Village International which is a hospital for Africans. When she arrived there, she told about the medicine and Dr McCall. But, surprisingly, Dr McCall was there. He wants to get the medicine not for money but for Africans truly. More astonishingly, Dr McCall has the blindness sickness. She misunderstood him.

Responding to the book

I was surprised that there are awful sicknesses in Africa. It is not sure if the sickness is true or not, however, I think sicknesses like this are in Africa or other counties. And, there are a lot of people who are worried about it and help Africans. Working for them is important. And a more important thing is it is not for money but for people. If Dr MaCall works for money, a lot of people will be worried about the sickness. And, I think that if I have any suspicion, I should clear that up. If Teresa had cleared up her suspicion of Dr McCall, she would have worked more comfortably.

I think this book was a little easy. That is why there are hardly any words I do not know. There were a few words I did not know but they did not affect keeping reading, so I could read without stopping and enjoyed it. When I read this book, I was looking forward to seeing how the story would develop, so, I recommend this book.
