The Phantom of the Opera

Misaki Niikura

Author: Jennifer Bassett

Genre: Love story

Date Started: 25/02/2011

Date Finished: 27/02/2011

It is 1880, in the Opera House in Paris. The opera ghost (the Phantom, Erik), Christine Daae, and Raoul (the Vicomte de Chagny) are the main characters. The theme is love.

The Phantom, who is a man, loved Christine Daae. He taught her to sing. He wanted her to love him. But she was afraid of him, because he has the most terrible face. She loved Raoul and Raoul loved her too. The Phantom didn’t like it. He tried to kill Raoul, because he wanted to marry Christine. The Phantom said “I love you. Marry me, be my wife, and love me. Then Raoul can live.” So she decided to marry him. And she kissed him. He was very pleased. Suddenly he cried and went down on the floor at Christine’s feet. And he said “You are free. Go away and marry your Raoul. But remember Erick, sometimes.” His life was as a strange-half-man, half-phantom. But he was a man in the end. And Christine and Raoul lived a happy life together.

I watched this movie a little, but it was different to this book, so this book is good. The English level is easy for me because I can understand almost all the words. I want to be able to read faster so this book is good. I could read smoothly. The best thing is Christine and Raoul’s love story. It is pure. The worst thing is the end. I think the end is not clear. I recommend other people read this book. This story is famous, but this book and the movie are different. The English level is easy so anyone can read this book. I think this book is good to practice reading fast.
